Shinzi Katoh is a Japanese Zakka artist of worldwide acclaim. “Zakka” (from the Japanese for “many things”) is the art of seeing the savvy in the ordinary and mundane. Having its origins as a design and fashion phenomenon in Japan, its popularity has spread throughout Asia and the world. Shinzi Katoh’s work is prolific: he has illustrated children’s and adults’ picture books; he has exhibited internationally, including in Maison & Objet in Paris and NYIGF in New York; and his works are available throughout the world. He is based in Aichi in the central region of Japan where he has his own gallery, shop and museum.
No collection of art for young people is complete without Shinzi Katoh’s Zakka prints for children, and Kindergallery is proud to offer his entire range. These designs capture moments of everyday ordinariness, like the slow train labouring over a hill, playing hide and seek in the forest or blowing bubbles. Katoh seems to go to the heart of the warmth and delight in such moments, and by combining them with intriguing textual elements, propagates happiness.
